Complete the Story: A Series of Short Stories #1

My parents gifted me this book to boost my creativity a few years ago. And, to be honest, I've barely used it. Not because I didn't appreciate it, it was more due to a book that pressured me to step out of my comfort zone with prompts that seemed, at first glance, unnatural. Today, however, my partner saw me listless with nothing to do and suggested I post one of these finished short stories. For fun, I figured, "What the hell, why not?" And so, without further ado, here is the first short story I finished well over five years ago. Enjoy, and happy Easter to those who celebrate!

No Man's Pond

I've been missing for three days. I can tell because there's a tiny, high window in here, and I've kept myself awake since they threw me in here and locked the door, but that's all I know. I assume the entire Secret Service isn't sleeping either, considering my safety is their most important gig, but who knows, this could be an inside job. I was on my way to have dinner with my daughter. On my way to get in the limousine to see her, a most peculiar thought crossed my mind..."I should jump in a pond!"

Back in Florida, this was in the early 70s, a couple of the neighbors and I would ride our bikes at the crack of dawn to No Man's Pond. Tony Colombo was a troublemaker who was seen as the leader of all the kids in the neighborhood. He and I were thick as thieves, until we reached the pond...I miss him.

Forgive me, my husband says that I tend to ramble when I'm nervous. As you can guess, dinner was cancelled. When I reached the limousine that night, all I remember is one hell of a blow to the head. Migraine speaks for themselves. What was it you wanted to ask me again? And why are there so many guns pointed at me?

"Why did you let me drown in the pond, Hank?"

"Tony...?"
