No Nonsense Nintendo Direct 6/18/2024
Hello, and welcome back to another No Nonsense! This time we take a look at the most recent Nintendo Direct where I was stunned at the length of it all! (There has to be a better way to phrase that) This Direct went all over with news of much aniticpated games, revitalizing franchises and even surprising new IP's for the Switch that just go to show that this fantastic console still has some bite left to it. So without further ado, let's get started!
Mario and Luigi BrotherShip
- A brand new entry in the Mario and Luigi series in the last 9 years.
- Seafaring adventure across various islands.
- Fantastic cel-shaded art style gives it an almost cartoon look.
- Enemy design and overall aesthetics are pleasing to the eyes.
Nintendo World Championship: NES Edition
- Take on 150+ speed run challenges.
- World Rankings available.
- Survival Mode Races
Fairy Tail 2
- Relive the climactic final arc in a new Action RPG.
- Team Composition leads to diferrent Link Attacks.
- All of your favorite characters from the manga are here and looking very crisp.
Fantasian Neo Dimension
- From the mind of Final Fantasy series creator, Hironobu Sakaguchi, and the legendary series composer Nobuo Uematsu.
- Classic Turn based RPG combat.
- Adjust the trajectory of skills to hit all enemies at once.
- Send enemies to a different dimension and fight them later.
- Has a vibe of old school storytelling of Machine vs Man that will definitely please those interested.
Nintendo Switch Sports
- Added Basketball to the game in a free update
- Team up with players worldwide in 2v2 matches
MIO: Memories in Orbit
- Haunting cyberpunk meets solar punk aesthetic
- Metroidvania vibes
- The trailer was just atmospheric enough to not give anything away
- Looks to be a solid contender for best looking Metroidvania when it comes out
Disney Illusion Island
- free update
- had no idea this was even a game that existed
Hello Kitty Island Adventure
- Customize your Character
- Befriend Hello Kitty and other staple Sanrio characters in an Open World adventure
- Team up and restore happiness to Friendship Island
- Seems like a mix of Animal Crossing with simple gameplay mechanics
- Give it to your kids to calm them down a bit
Looney Tunes: Wacky World of Sports
- Classic characters face off in various games
- Local Co-Op
- Power ups and gimmick hazards seem to litter the stages
- Future Daffy Main
Among Us
- New crewmate and intruder announced

Farmagia
- Character designs by Hiro Mashima (Fairy Tail mangaka)
- Farm management simulator where your crops turn into monsters, then your monsters fight in turn based combat
- Seems like a typical friendship is power shonen game
Donkey Kong Country Returns HD
- Enhanced visual and sound design

Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake
- Gorgeous visuals and pixel art showing just how much the visual inspiration from Octopath Traveller has reignited the love for pixel art games.
- Dragon Quest 1 and 2 will also release in 2025, completing the Erdrick Trilogy!

- Pops! as you've never seen them before

- Seems fun for what it is

The following four games are ports for the GBA and N64 Emulators on the Switch, though announced during the Direct, they did nothing for me. Barely a tickle on the proverbial pickle.

Metroid Prime 4 Beyond
- Holy shit it's real!
- Fast paced FPS combat
- Tense set pieces
- Who is this new villain being accompanied by two Metroids?!
- The new planet looks both ethereal and majestic
In Closing
The latest Nintendo Direct was honestly full of so many titles that it made writing this segment a chore at time, but overall this year and 2025 promise to be a strong year for the console. Any of the games stand out to you? If so, write a comment down below!
