The Switch is a Manga Reader

Come March 13, 2025, the Japanese Switch eshop is getting a manga reader application. Shogakukan will be in charge of the release of the app for the hybrid system. Though some would say that it's late in the console's lifespan, I am excited about the possibility of it becoming available for manga fans in Japan. The news of this development was confirmed by Tatsuki Waki of the Monthly CoroCoro 4 days ago on X (formerly Twitter).

How will it function?

  • The user will need to swap the system from horizontal to vertical.
  • Face buttons (X, Y) will be used to zoom in and out of the images.

When can we expect it on North American servers?

  • As of writing this post, there are no plans for the immediate future for an overseas release. However, all hope is not lost. Since there exists a free comic app on the Switch called Inky Pen. This app is free, and if you want unlimited access to the library of both manga and comics, then you can pay a subscription.

In Closing

News of such apps for the Switch is sure to make any manga fan excited! Let's just hope that we get a version of the app overseas during the year. The Switch as a console keeps proving why it is such a unique experience for all types of experiences. Thank you again for taking the time out of your day, and reading this post. Hope the rest of your day is fantastic, and take care!

  1. I've been meaning to finish some older manga (Berserk & Gantz). Might finally get around to those if the app ever makes it here.
